Sometimes billed as “San Parkos” for its many recreational areas, the City of San Marcos is preparing to begin construction on the community’s 35th public park. San Marcos city officials will mark the official start of construction on Richmar Park with a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public and will take place at the park’s site, 110 Richmar Ave. The 1.8-acre park will feature a children’s play area, picnic and social spaces, walking paths, a performance area, and a central shaded gazebo. It is expected to open this fall.

“The addition of a second park in the Richmar area represents amazing progress in one of our oldest neighborhoods,” said Community Services Director Buck Martin. “Through our parks and trails system, we are building value in our community and making San Marcos a vibrant recreation destination.” For more information about the new park visit
