Dedicated to Craft Beer

faces1What started as a homebrewing hobby has turned into Nick Corona’s personal mission. It began, he explained, on a regular night, meeting a friend at a local pub. He ordered a craft beer he had not tried before, and the epiphany occurred. “It was at that moment I fell in love with craft beer. I couldn’t believe that someone could create something so enjoyable to drink,” Nick said. “That’s when it hit me:
I wanted to give someone that experience.”

Nick began homebrewing with a starter kit in April 2012. “What began as a stove top boil and quite a mess in the kitchen has now taken over one entire car space in the garage,” Nick admitted. Now, four years later, Nick’s attention to detail and desire to create a beer that is truly savored has been recognized at the National Homebrew Competition where he was named the 2016 Homebrewer of the Year. “Years of hard work paid off in a way that I never would have expected or imagined,” Nick said.

But the homebrewing hobby doesn’t pay the bills – not yet, at least. Nick and his wife Kandy are saving to someday open their own brewery. In the meantime, the couple work at Valley View Casino, Nick as the casino manager and Kandy as a bartender. Nick, a La Costa native, and Kandy met in Las Vegas and relocated to the Discovery Hills community to raise their three children – Connelley, Zach, and Arianna. “With so many beautiful homes nestled into the hills, all the nature we can experience on the miles of hiking trails, as well as the highly anticipated San Marcos Creek District, we consider ourselves very fortunate to be residents here,” Nick shared.

While the family is saving money to open their brewery, Nick will be offering his award-winning Weissbier beer at two breweries in the area: Lightning Brewery in Poway and Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands. Labeled as “the best homebrewed beer in the world in 2016” by the judges, one other testimonial is worth a mention. “My wife has never been a big fan of beer, but bless her heart, she has been sampling every glass I pour as she works to refine her palette,” Nick said. “This was the first beer that she actually asked me to pour her a glass of and now I can’t keep her away from it.”
