Contemporary Women of North County Members Serve Around the County
Living the Volunteer Spirit
General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Contemporary Women of North County (CWONC) members are living up to their mission of enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The women have been active in participating in various events throughout San Diego County, such as Casa de Amparo’s 21st Annual Meet the Chefs of Del Mar event in late April. Top Del Mar chefs prepared and shared their signature dishes while guests sipped wine and bid on silent auction items. Proceeds from the event support Casa de Amparo’s programs and services for abused, neglected, and at-risk children and families. CWONC members worked the silent auction area, helping to set up, maintain tables and bid sheets, and assisting winning guests in connecting with their prizes. Earlier in April, GFWC Contemporary Women supported Camp Pendleton’s annual “Eggstravaganza” with a cookie decorating table for children of the group’s adopted squadron, Marine Squadron 369.
CWONC members have been volunteering at the San Diego County Fair since 1998. This year the women served as stewards for the beer tasting contest at a pre-fair event. Prior to the fair opening on June 2, they will also wash wine glasses for wine judging and register entries for the “Best of K-6 Schools” exhibit. Finally, as an organization dedicated to community improvement, preparing and serving lunch for families at Ronald McDonald House San Diego has become a favorite and frequent volunteer project for members of GFWC Contemporary Women.
