The City of San Marcos was recently recognized with an Award of Merit by the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) – a first economic development honor for the City. The award highlights the City’s outreach about recent and ongoing economic development as the region’s business power continues to grow.

“Our businesses are a critical piece of our local economy, supplying more than 40,000 jobs here in San Marcos,” said Tess Sangster, Economic Development Manager. She accepted the award on the City’s behalf at CALED’s annual conference. “When we empower our businesses to succeed, the entire community benefits.”

Economic development has been a top priority in recent years. “We contribute a $7.9 billion annual GDP to the regional economy,” Sangster explained. “And as North County’s education hub, we also produce 10 percent of the region’s total academic program completions. This recognition rightfully puts San Marcos on the map.”
